Sports Schools Need A Paradigm Shift, Rosmah
KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 7 (Bernama) -- The prime minister's wife Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor has called for a paradigm shift in the country's sports schools so that they are not continuously perceived to be second best compared to academic schools.
She hoped that the Education Ministry would look into the matter so that sports schools, particularly the Bukit Jalil Sports School, would be on the right track to achieve excellence.
"In my opinion, there should be a more structured approach, with curriculum tailored towards fulfilling the objective of a sports school," she said at the Young Olympian Night dinner at the Bukit Jalil Sports School here Friday.
She said that for the sake of the future of sports in the country, all should look into how it could be developed in a holistic manner.
In the context of Malaysia, sports could be a platform to unite the people and nurture patriotism towards the country in line with the 1Malaysia concept, she said.
"As for athletes, they are able to unite irrespective of their race or culture and work together to ensure victory for their team," she said.
At the event, Rosmah presented academic and special sports awards to 30 students of Bukit Jalil Sports School.
