PETRONAS has been playing an active role in the field of education and human resource development. In 1981, PETRONAS set up the Institut Latihan Perindustrian Petroleum, which was later renamed as Institut Teknologi Petroliam (INSTEP). In 1995 Institut Teknologi PETRONAS was established. Two years later, the institute was upgraded into Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS. The corporation also sponsors deserving students for further education both at home and abroad.
